Menorah Crochet Pattern
Create a handmade Hanukkah Menorah by crocheting the piece in several small sections and assembling them into one finished design. The project includes a sturdy base, a side part, one central Shamash, eight additional candles, and separate candle glows.
The construction is worked in manageable sections, so you can complete each part before moving on to assembly.
Menorah Crochet Pattern-The Short Answer
Materials
- 2.75 mm crochet hook
- 2.25 mm crochet hook
- Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton in blue, hello, and orange
- Polyfill
- Tapestry Needle
The larger hook is used for the main construction, while the 2.25 mm hook is used for the candle glow pieces.

Pattern Notes
The Menorah is made in separate pieces. Begin with the base, then work the side part around it. The Shamash, eight candles, and their candle glows are crocheted separately and finished before assembly.
When working the base and side section, pay close attention to the corners and the narrow sides. For the stuffed section, add Polyfill as instructed before completely closing the piece.
Base
Make 2 base pieces: one for the bottom and one for the upper part.
Starting Chain
ch 42
Row 1
Work sc into the second ch from the hook and continue across.
Stitch count: 40 sc
Rows 2–5
Work ch, then sc across.
Stitch count: 40 sc per row
After completing the rows, continue around the rectangle rather than turning.
Work 2 sc in the corner, 3 sc along the narrow side, 2 sc in the next corner, then work sc all along the other side.
Stitch count: 38 sc
Continue around the remaining section using the same corner construction, then fasten off.
Side Part
The side part is worked around one of the completed base pieces.
Round 1
Work in the back loop only.
Begin with a sl st in the first sc after the corner. Work sc all along.
At the corner, work 2 sc. Along the narrow side, work 3 sc. Work 2 sc in the next corner, then continue with sc all along the other side of the rectangle.
Rounds 2–4
Work sc all around.
Round 5
Place the top cover over the work. Working in the back loop only, use sl st through both sides all around.
When you reach approximately 3/4 of the way around, add Polyfill and stuff the piece firmly. Continue with the sl st closure until the opening is completely closed.
Shamash
The Shamash is worked separately from the other candles.
Round 1
ch 2, then work 6 sc in the second ch from the hook.

Candle Glow for the Shamash
The candle glow for the Shamash is worked separately with the 2.25 mm hook. Begin with yellow yarn, then change to orange yarn for the lower section.

ch 2, then work 6 sc in the second ch from the hook.

Change to orange yarn and work sc, sc2tog.

Sew the glowing fire onto the top of the Shamash at the far-left side of the base.
Candle Glows for the Remaining Candles
Make 8 candle glows using the 2.25 mm hook and yellow yarn.
Round 1
ch 2, then work 6 sc in the second ch from the hook.

Round 2
Work [sc, 2 sc in next st] 3 times.
Stitch count: 9 sc
Rounds 3–4
Work sc all around.
Round 5
Change to orange yarn and work sc, sc2tog.
Stitch count: 5 sc
Round 6
Work sc, sc2tog twice.
Fasten off.
Assembly
With the main pieces complete, bring the Menorah together by assembling the base, side part, Shamash, eight candles, and candle glows.
Use the Tapestry Needle for the sewing and finishing work. Check the position of each candle before securing it so the arrangement remains even across the base.
The Shamash should have its glowing fire attached at the top, while the remaining candle glows are positioned with their corresponding candles.
Finishing
Before considering the Menorah complete, check each sewn section and secure the remaining yarn ends with the Tapestry Needle. Make sure the Polyfill is evenly distributed inside the stuffed section and that the closure is secure.
The finished project is made from the individual crocheted components described above, allowing each part to be completed and checked before final assembly.
